Hillsborough Castle
Hillsborough, a compact village in County Down, is noted for its stunning architecture and olde-worlde charm. Located at the top of the Georgian styled Main Street sits Hillsborough Castle. A two story mansion which is the official residence of the Royal Family when they are visiting Northern Ireland. There are many interesting walks and home to a public forest park and lake. With local pubs offering delicacies to enjoy, Hillsborough hosts an International Oyster Festival each year, generally September. Attracting thousands of visitors the festivities include boat racing, parachuting, garden fêtes, oyster eating and Guinness drinking – all in the name of fun, revelry and charity.
Balmoral show at Maze Long Kesh
In summer 2013 the RUAS Balmoral Show arrived at the former site of the Maze prison, now renamed Balmoral Park. It was estimated that over 100,000 visitors came to the new home of the Balmoral Show over the three day period.
